Lifeguarding, is it just for Teens?
February 8, 2021

Many times when we think about our summers as a kid we remember the pool and you usually remember seeing your local High School kids doing the lifeguarding. Anymore that has changed. With youth becoming more involved in summer sports activities, including summer weights and conditioning, this is not leaving a lot of time for the “summer jobs.”

Lifeguarding and Swim Lesson Instructing are great jobs to be had by anyone of any age. This is a great opportunity for Young Adults, who are home from college, to hold a job in the summer. This is also an opportunity for many of teachers and para educators to make some extra income in the summer months.

You may ask, well why is there such a push for so many lifeguards? A good answer to this is because we run one of the largest water parks in the state and we want the Pawnee Plunge to be known, not only for the amenities, but for the safety we are providing as well.  In 2015, an estimated 360,000 people died from drowning. Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths. Having the appropriate amount of Lifeguards on duty is a matter of life or death. You also need people who are willing to be Swim Lesson Instructors as well. Being able to teach the most vulnerable of our population lifesaving skills will help to prevent drownings in our area.

The Pawnee Plunge and the Aquatic Center strive to bring safety and fun to the community. To apply to be a Lifeguard or a Swim Lesson Instructor, contact the Aquatic Center at 402-563-3222 to set up your swim test today! For questions about the positions call 402-563-3222 or 402-562-4234 and we will do our best to help. SEE YOU THIS SUMMER!
